reiki and energy work
Reiki is a method of energy healing. The idea is that Reiki practitioners are attuned through a lineage of Reiki Masters to be channels for energy - qi, chi, prana - and that through Reiki's practices and methods, this energy is channeled to be used to balance the energies of the person receiving Reiki. According to my nature, I was very skeptical when I began studying and using Reiki, and it has been one of my best teachers that a striving kind of belief is not a requisite of truth. Things that are true can be true without my understanding why or how they work, and they can even work as I question them. Reiki is now used in hospitals and hospices across the country as a complementary treatment. Reiki is not a substitute for medical or mental health treatment, but it can help in providing a sense of relaxation, well-being, balance, and more. Your mileage may vary. For both the curious and the skeptical, here are some studies from reputable organizations: National Institute of Health, Cancer Research UK.
During Reiki sessions, typically clients lay on a massage table (though you may sit or stand), fully clothed. Reiki sometimes involves direct touching, but this is absolutely not necessary. As trauma-informed practitioners, we will always discuss any touching with you in advance, as we want to ensure your comfort and feelings of safety during the treatment. Distance Reiki is also an option for folks who can't or don't want to come for an in-person session.
